Biography

Frederick I of Württemberg was born on November 6, 1754, in Trzebiatów, beginning a life that would span the transformative decades of late eighteenth-century Europe. Rising through the ranks of regional nobility, he would eventually guide his realm through an era of significant political change and growth.

Over the course of his life, Frederick held several distinguished titles reflecting the evolving political landscape of his time. He served as Duke of Württemberg before ascending to the position of Elector, and ultimately achieving the rank of King of Württemberg—a progression that demonstrated both his longevity in power and his adaptation to the changing European order during the Napoleonic era.

Frederick I passed away on October 30, 1816, in Stuttgart, after more than six decades of life marked by service to his principality. His remains were laid to rest at Ludwigsburg Palace in Ludwigsburg, Germany, a fitting location that reflected the significance of his reign and his place within Württemberg’s history.
