Biography

Dmitry Pozharsky was born on November 11, 1577, into the distinguished Rurikid dynasty, one of Russia’s most prominent noble families. Little is known of his early years, yet his life would come to span a transformative period in Russian history. As a member of the hereditary nobility, he inherited both the privileges and responsibilities that accompanied his aristocratic station during a time of significant change in his nation.

Prince Dmitry lived through turbulent decades and contributed to the life of his people across more than six decades. His service reflected the commitments expected of a man of his rank during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Though details of his specific accomplishments remain limited in historical record, his lineage and longevity speak to a life of consequence within the Russian nobility.

He spent his final years in Moscow, where he died on April 30, 1642, at an advanced age. Honoring his status and legacy, Dmitry was laid to rest at the Monastery of Saint Euthymius in Suzdal, Russia—a place of spiritual significance befitting a nobleman of the Rurikid line. His burial at this esteemed monastery ensured that his memory would be preserved within one of Russia’s important religious and cultural centers.
