David d’Angers was born on March 12, 1788, in the town of Angers, France, during a period of great artistic and social transformation. He would go on to become one of France’s most accomplished sculptors and medallists, earning recognition for his skilled work in both monumental and intimate forms. His career flourished during the nineteenth century, a time when French neoclassical and romantic sculpture were reaching new heights of expression and technical refinement.
