Claude of France 1499 – 1524
Biography
Claude of France was born on October 13, 1499, in Romorantin-Lanthenay, entering a world of royal expectation and dynastic significance. Her life, though brief, would be marked by the responsibilities of nobility and the weight of political alliance that defined her era.
As Duchess of Brittany and Queen Consort of France, Claude carried the honor of her titles with the dignity expected of her station. Her position linked two important regions of France and represented the consolidation of royal power during a transformative period in French history.
On July 30, 1524, Claude’s life came to an end in Blois at the age of twenty-four. Her passing marked the loss of a woman whose brief years had been devoted to duty and her realm. In recognition of her station and legacy, she was laid to rest in the Basilica of Saint-Denis in Saint-Denis, France, a final resting place befitting her rank and the respect accorded to those who served the French crown.
