Börje Salming 1951 – 2022

Biography

Börje Salming was born on April 17, 1951, in Kiruna, a town in northern Sweden. He would go on to become a notable ice hockey player, dedicating much of his life to the sport he loved. Growing up in Sweden’s Arctic region, Salming developed a passion for hockey that would define his remarkable career and leave a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Salming was recognized for his contributions to ice hockey, earning respect within the sport and admiration from fans and colleagues alike. His journey from the small mining town of Kiruna to becoming a notable figure in hockey demonstrated his determination and skill. Beyond his athletic achievements, Salming was known to those close to him as someone who approached life with dedication and integrity.

On November 24, 2022, Börje Salming passed away in Nacka at the age of 71, after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His legacy lives on in the hearts of family, friends, and the hockey community he touched throughout his life. He was laid to rest at Skogskyrkogården in Stockholm Municipality, a final resting place befitting a man who gave so much to his beloved sport and country.
