Biography

Arame of Urartu was born on January 1, 900 BCE in the ancient kingdom of Urartu, a powerful civilization that flourished in the Armenian highlands during the Iron Age. He rose to prominence as a king, leading his people during a significant period in the region’s history. Though detailed records of his reign have not survived the millennia, his position as a ruler of Urartu speaks to his importance in the ancient Near East, a time when the kingdom was establishing itself as a major regional power.

King Arame spent his life governing the mountainous territories of Urartu until his death on January 1, 843 BCE, at an advanced age of fifty-seven. The exact circumstances surrounding the end of his life remain unknown to history, as do the details of his burial place. Despite the gaps in the historical record, Arame remains part of the legacy of Urartu’s early kings, whose contributions shaped the kingdom’s development during the Iron Age.
