Biography

Anne of Bohemia was born on May 19, 1366, in Prague, emerging into a world of royal privilege and dynastic possibility. As a Czech princess, she carried the weight of her noble heritage and the expectations that accompanied her station. Though her life would prove brief, the circumstances of her birth in one of Europe’s great medieval cities marked her as a figure of significance in the royal courts of her time.

On June 15, 1394, Anne’s life was claimed by plague while she resided at Sheen Priory. Her death at only twenty-eight years of age cut short what might have been a longer chapter in European history. The plague, that merciless scourge of the medieval world, spared neither peasant nor princess, and Anne fell among its many victims during this devastating period.

The respect afforded to Anne in death reflected the esteem in which she was held. She was laid to rest at Westminster Abbey in London, one of Christendom’s most sacred and significant burial grounds. This final honor underscored her importance and the regard in which she was remembered by those who survived her.
