Biography

Alfonso X was born on November 30, 1221, in Toledo, during a period of significant change in the Iberian Peninsula. He would go on to become King of Castile and Leon, ruling from 1252 until his death. His reign spanned three decades of medieval Spanish history, during which he oversaw the kingdom through both prosperity and challenge.

Throughout his life, Alfonso X remained deeply connected to the regions that shaped him. Born in the culturally rich city of Toledo, he carried with him the influences of that vibrant center throughout his reign. His rule extended across the substantial territories of Castile and Leon, two of the most powerful Christian kingdoms in medieval Spain.

On April 11, 1284, Alfonso X died in Seville, the great southern city that had become an important seat of his authority. His passing marked the end of an era in Castilian leadership. In recognition of his significance, he was laid to rest at Seville Cathedral, where his memory would be preserved for generations to come. His thirty-two-year reign left a lasting imprint on the medieval Spanish kingdoms he governed.
