Alexander of Greece 1893 – 1920
Biography
Alexander of Greece was born on August 1, 1893, at Tatoi Palace, entering the world as a member of the Greek royal family during a transformative period in his nation’s history. His birth came at a time of significant change for Greece, and he would come to hold the distinguished position of King during his lifetime.
His reign, though brief, occurred during a consequential era for the Greek nation. Alexander ascended to the throne during circumstances that reflected the complex political landscape of early twentieth-century Europe. Despite the weight of royal responsibility, his life was cut short by illness.
On October 25, 1920, at just twenty-seven years of age, King Alexander died in Athens following a severe infection that developed into sepsis. His passing marked the end of a young reign and left a notable gap in the Greek succession. He was laid to rest with royal honors at the Tatoi Royal Cemetery in the Attica Region, where he remains interred among his family members.
