Biography
Alexander III was born on March 10, 1845, at Anichkov Palace in Saint Petersburg, entering the world as a member of Russia’s imperial family. His life would be shaped by the responsibilities and complexities that came with his position within one of Europe’s most powerful dynasties during a transformative era.
He ascended to the throne as Emperor of Russia in 1881, a time of significant change and challenge for the vast nation. His reign lasted until his death, during which he navigated the political and social currents of late nineteenth-century Russia. His leadership during these thirteen years left a lasting mark on the empire and its people.
Alexander III died on November 1, 1894, at Livadia Palace, succumbing to nephritis at the age of forty-nine. His passing marked the end of an era for Russia and the imperial court. He was laid to rest at Peter and Paul Cathedral in the Petrogradsky District, where he joins other members of Russia’s royal lineage. His legacy remains an important part of Russian imperial history.
