Aleksey Koltsov was born on October 15, 1809, in Voronezh, a provincial city in southwestern Russia. Growing up in this regional center, he developed a deep connection to Russian folk traditions and rural life that would profoundly influence his literary voice. Despite his relatively modest circumstances, Koltsov cultivated a gift for poetry that set him apart among his contemporaries.

Throughout his life, Koltsov devoted himself to the craft of verse, becoming recognized as a significant figure in Russian Romantic poetry.
