Biography

Albert Schweitzer was born on January 14, 1875, in the small Alsatian town of Kaysersberg, where he first encountered a world of intellectual and spiritual possibility. A man of remarkable versatility, he devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge across multiple disciplines—as a physician, theologian, musician, and philosopher. His keen mind and compassionate heart drove him to seek meaningful ways to serve humanity, refusing to remain confined to any single calling or comfortable station.

In 1965, after a lifetime of dedicated service and profound contribution to human knowledge and welfare, Schweitzer passed away on September 4 in Lambaréné. His final resting place was the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon—a fitting testament to the institution and the people to whom he had devoted so much of his life’s work. There, surrounded by the community he had served with such dedication, his physical remains came to rest, while his influence and legacy continued to inspire generations to come.
