Bohemond IV of Antioch 1172 – 1233
Biography
Bohemond IV of Antioch was a Prince of Antioch who lived during a transformative period in the Crusader States. Born on January 1, 1172, he inherited a principality that held significant strategic importance in the eastern Mediterranean during the era of the Crusades. As a member of the Norman-descended nobility that ruled Antioch, Bohemond IV carried forward a legacy of leadership in one of the most prominent Crusader domains.
Throughout his lifetime, Bohemond IV navigated the complex political landscape of the Levant during the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. His sixty-one years spanned a time of considerable change in the region, as the Crusader States faced ongoing pressures and shifting alliances. As Prince of Antioch, he would have been involved in the governance and defense of his territory during this consequential period in medieval history.
Bohemond IV died on January 1, 1233, marking the end of his long life. Notably, his birth and death both occurred on the same date of the calendar year, an unusual symmetry in his life’s timeline. Though specific details about the locations of his birth and death, as well as his burial site, remain unknown to history, his role as Prince of Antioch remains part of the enduring legacy of the Crusader States and their rulers.
