Biography
Barquq rose to prominence during one of the most transformative periods in medieval Egypt, ultimately becoming one of the most significant figures of the late Mamluk era. Born on January 1, 1339, he would eventually ascend to the highest position in the sultanate, wielding considerable power and influence over the course of his lifetime. His journey from his origins to the seat of the Mamluk throne represents a remarkable chapter in Egyptian history.
As Sultan of Egypt, Barquq served during two distinct periods: from 1382 to 1389 and again from 1390 to 1399.
