Biography

Moisei Uritsky was born on January 14, 1873, in Cherkasy, a city in what is now Ukraine. He would go on to become a notable figure in Soviet politics during the tumultuous early years following the Russian Revolution. His life spanned a period of extraordinary change in Russian history, from the final decades of the Tsarist empire through the formation of the Soviet state.

Uritsky’s political career unfolded during one of the most volatile periods in modern history. He was active in shaping Soviet governance during the initial consolidation of Bolshevik power, serving in various political capacities as the new Soviet state struggled to establish itself. His work reflected the ideological commitments and practical challenges that defined the revolutionary government.

Uritsky’s life came to an end on August 30, 1918, in Saint Petersburg, when he was just 45 years old. His death occurred during the Russian Civil War, a time when political violence was widespread and the young Soviet regime faced threats from multiple directions. Though his time was cut short, Uritsky remained part of the historical record as one of the early Soviet politicians who witnessed and participated in the dramatic transformation of Russia during its revolutionary period.
