Biography

Drusus Julius Caesar was born on October 7 in 12 BCE to one of Rome’s most powerful families. As the son of Emperor Tiberius, he occupied a prominent place in the imperial household during the early decades of the Roman Empire. His life unfolded within the walls of Rome itself, where he grew up amid the responsibilities and expectations that came with his distinguished lineage.

Though his life was cut tragically short, Drusus Julius Caesar’s existence was marked by the significance of his family connections and his position within the empire’s highest circles. He lived during a formative period in Roman history, when the foundations of imperial rule were being established and refined under his father’s reign.

On September 14, 23 CE, Drusus died in Rome under tragic circumstances—poisoning claimed his life at just ten years of age. His death marked a sorrowful chapter in the imperial family’s history. In keeping with the honors befitting his station, Drusus was interred in the Mausoleum of Augustus in the Campo Marzio, the grand sepulcher reserved for Rome’s most distinguished citizens and members of the imperial family.
