Biography

Richard Parkes Bonington was born on October 25, 1802, in Arnold, beginning a life that would prove both brilliant and tragically brief. As a painter of exceptional talent, he devoted himself to his craft during what should have been the prime years of his artistic development. On September 23, 1828, Bonington passed away in London, his life cut short by tuberculosis. The disease claimed him at an age when many artists are only beginning to establish their legacies, yet despite his youth, Bonington had already made significant contributions to the world of painting. His final resting place is Kensal Green Cemetery in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, United Kingdom, where he was laid to rest among other notable figures of his era.

Though Bonington’s life was fleeting, his memory endures as a testament to the power of artistic passion and dedication. He remains remembered as a painter whose potential seemed limitless, a talented individual whose work continues to resonate with those who appreciate the arts.
