Biography

Cyril Genik was born on January 1, 1857, in Nyzhnii Bereziv, a small community in Eastern Europe. Little is known of his early years, but his life would eventually lead him across an ocean to the vast Canadian prairies, where he would dedicate himself to facilitating the movement of people seeking new beginnings in a new land.

As an immigration agent, Cyril played a vital role in one of history’s great migrations. During his era, immigration agents were essential figures who guided families and individuals through the complex process of relocating to Canada. Whether providing information, arranging travel, or helping newcomers navigate settlement, his work touched the lives of countless people pursuing opportunity and security far from their homeland.

Cyril spent his final years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a city that had become a major hub for immigration and settlement during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He passed away on February 12, 1925, at sixty-eight years of age. His legacy rests in the service he rendered to those who dreamed of building new lives in Canada, bridging the old world and the new for generations of hopeful settlers.
