Biography

Farrukhsiyar was born on August 20, 1685, in Aurangabad during a time of great complexity in Mughal India. He would go on to become the ninth Mughal Emperor, ascending to the throne in 1713 and ruling until his death in 1719. His reign, though brief, occurred during a significant period in the empire’s history as various factions vied for influence and power within the imperial court.

During his six years as emperor, Farrukhsiyar navigated the intricate political landscape of Mughal governance. His tenure represented a chapter in the later Mughal period, a time when the empire faced mounting pressures from within and without. Despite the challenges of his rule, he maintained his position as the principal authority of the Mughal state during his years in power.

Farrukhsiyar died on April 19, 1719, in Delhi at the age of thirty-three. His passing marked the end of a relatively short life and reign. He was laid to rest at Humayun’s Tomb in the South East Delhi district, a significant burial place that reflected his imperial status. His tomb remains a testament to his position in Mughal history and continues to stand as a monument to this era of Indian civilization.
