Biography

Simeon of Moscow was born on September 15, 1316, in Moscow during a transformative period in Russian history. He rose to prominence as a Prince of Moscow and served as Grand Prince of Vladimir, holding positions of considerable influence and responsibility during the fourteenth century. His leadership would have shaped the region during an era marked by political complexity and external pressures.

His life was cut short when he succumbed to bubonic plague on May 5, 1353, in his native Moscow at the age of thirty-six. The plague that claimed him was among the great epidemics that swept across Europe and Asia during the medieval period, taking countless lives regardless of station or status. Despite his early death, his legacy endured in the principalities he served.

Simeon was laid to rest in the Cathedral of the Archangel in Moscow’s Tverskoy District, a place of honor befitting his station. This burial site stands as a lasting testament to his place in Moscow’s medieval history and the respect accorded to his memory. Though his years were few, his time as a ruling prince left an imprint on the developing Russian state.
