Biography

Alexander I was born on January 1, 1078, in Dunfermline, a town of significant importance in medieval Scotland. He would go on to become King of the Scots, a position of considerable responsibility during a transformative period in Scottish history. His life spanned forty-six years, during which he witnessed and shaped the development of his kingdom during the early twelfth century.

Alexander I spent his final days at Stirling Castle, where he passed away on April 23, 1124. Though the specific circumstances surrounding his death were not recorded for posterity, his passing marked the end of a notable reign. His body was laid to rest with honor at Dunfermline Abbey in Fife, the same region where he had been born. This choice of burial place reflected the deep spiritual and dynastic significance of Dunfermline, which held special meaning for the Scottish royal house.

The legacy of Alexander I endured long after his interment, as his reign represented a significant chapter in the story of the Scottish monarchy during the High Middle Ages.
