Ladislaus III of Hungary 1201 – 1205
Biography
Ladislaus III of Hungary was born on January 1, 1201, in Székesfehérvár, the ancient royal seat of the Hungarian kingdom. As a member of Hungary’s ruling dynasty, he held the title of King during the early thirteenth century, a period of significant change in medieval Europe. Though his life was brief, he occupied an important place in the line of Hungarian succession during a formative era in the nation’s history.
Ladislaus III died on May 14, 1205, in Vienna at just four years of age. His short reign and life reflect the uncertainties and challenges faced by young monarchs in medieval times, when succession and stability were constant concerns for noble families. Following royal custom, he was laid to rest in the Székesfehérvár Basilica, the traditional burial place of Hungarian kings in his native Székesfehérvár.
Though his time on earth was measured in mere years, Ladislaus III remains part of Hungary’s royal legacy, remembered as a member of the kingdom’s ruling house during the early medieval period.
