Biography

Eadweard Muybridge was born on April 9, 1830, in Kingston upon Thames, England, during an era when photography itself was in its infancy. He would become a pioneering English-American photographer whose work helped shape the visual language of his time. Throughout his life, Muybridge dedicated himself to the art and science of capturing images, bridging the gap between artistic vision and technical innovation.

On May 8, 1904, Muybridge passed away in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, the very place where he had entered the world more than seven decades earlier. He died from prostate cancer, after a lifetime spent exploring the possibilities of his chosen medium. His remains were laid to rest at Woking Crematorium in Woking, United Kingdom, concluding a remarkable journey that had taken him across continents and through transformative decades of photographic advancement.
