Biography

Carl Sagan was born on November 9, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, where his lifelong journey of discovery began. He would go on to become one of the most influential astrophysicists and cosmologists of his generation, dedicating his career to unraveling the mysteries of the universe and sharing that knowledge with the world.

Throughout his distinguished career, Sagan distinguished himself not only as a brilliant scientist but also as a gifted communicator and author. His passion for astronomy and cosmology was matched by an equal commitment to making complex scientific concepts accessible to the general public, bridging the gap between academic research and popular understanding.

On December 20, 1996, Sagan passed away in Seattle at the age of 62, succumbing to pneumonia. His remains were laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca, a fitting final resting place for a man who spent so much of his life reaching toward the stars and expanding humanity’s perspective on its place in the cosmos.
