Biography

Hosni Mubarak was born on May 4, 1928, in the village of Kafr el-Muṣīlḥa. He would go on to serve as President of Egypt for three decades, from 1981 until 2011, a period that spanned significant moments in the nation’s modern history. During his tenure, he oversaw Egypt through complex domestic and international challenges that shaped the country’s trajectory throughout the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

On February 25, 2020, Mubarak passed away in Cairo at the age of 91. His death resulted from complications following surgery. He was laid to rest in Heliopolis, Cairo Governorate, where his memory remains part of Egypt’s historical record. His long life encompassed nearly a century of change, and his presidency left an indelible mark on Egyptian society and politics that continues to be studied and discussed by historians and citizens alike.
