Biography

Otto von Bismarck was born on April 1, 1815, in Schönhausen an der Elbe, a small estate in Prussia. Over the course of his lifetime, he would leave an indelible mark on European history as a statesman and Chancellor of Germany. His career spanned decades of profound political transformation, during which he navigated the complex currents of nineteenth-century diplomacy and nation-building with remarkable skill and determination.

Bismarck spent his final years at Friedrichsruh, his beloved country residence, where he remained until his death on July 30, 1898. He passed away peacefully at an advanced age, his long and influential life coming to an end through respiratory arrest. His contributions to statecraft and his role in shaping modern Europe ensured that his legacy would endure far beyond his lifetime.

In recognition of his significance, Bismarck was laid to rest in the Bismarck Mausoleum in Aumühle, Germany, a fitting tribute to a man whose vision and political acumen had fundamentally altered the course of European affairs. His burial place stands as a monument to his memory and remains a testament to the historical importance he continues to hold in German and European history.
