Audrey Munson 1891 – 1996
Biography
Audrey Munson was born on June 8, 1891, in Rochester, New York, during a transformative era for American art and entertainment. Over the course of her remarkable life, she became one of the most sought-after artist’s models of her generation, lending her distinctive features to sculptors and painters who sought to capture ideal beauty on canvas and in stone. Her graceful presence and availability made her a fixture in artistic circles during the early twentieth century.
Beyond her work as a model, Audrey also pursued a career in film acting, appearing in motion pictures during the silent era. She navigated the rapidly evolving entertainment industry with the same poise that had made her successful in the visual arts. Her dual careers reflected the expanding opportunities available to women of her time, even as she remained largely behind the scenes in many of her contributions to American culture.
Audrey lived a long life, passing away on February 20, 1996, in Ogdensburg, New York, at the age of 104. Her extraordinary longevity allowed her to witness the entire arc of modern American art and cinema, from their earliest days through the late twentieth century. She was laid to rest at New Haven Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy as a muse and performer who helped shape the visual culture of her era.
