Biography

Friedrich Jeckeln was born on February 2, 1895, in Hornberg, Germany. He lived during one of history’s most turbulent periods, serving in positions of significant authority during the Nazi era. As a member of the Waffen-SS and a German politician affiliated with the NSDAP, he held considerable power within the regime’s military and political structures.

Jeckeln’s legacy is defined by his involvement in some of the darkest chapters of the Holocaust. His actions resulted in immense suffering and loss of life during World War II. Following the war’s end, he was held accountable for crimes against humanity, specifically for mass murder and other atrocities committed under his command.

On February 3, 1946—one day after his fifty-first birthday—Jeckeln was executed by hanging in Riga. His death marked the formal legal reckoning for the grave violations of human rights and international law perpetrated during the war. His case remains a sobering reminder of the consequences of complicity in systematic genocide and the importance of holding individuals accountable for crimes against humanity.
